Fruit and Vegetable a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

Mother knows best when it comes to kids health. We are very conscious of our families health especially during our pregnancy. As much as possible, fruits and vegetable are included in our daily diet and avoid those fatty and oily foods. Here in the US, fruits and vegetables are available abundantly but too pricey. The only fruit that is always in season and the cheapest is the banana but those produced in the country priced too much compared to the fruits imported from Mexico which is a little bit cheaper.

Apple is one of the staple food in the US and consider to be jam-packed with nutrients. So, an apple a day really can keep the doctor away, but what if you don't have apple everyday? It is not a problem, any fruit and vegetable will do and can significantly reduce the risk of many chronic conditions such as cancer and heart disease.

Eating fruit and vegetables can help achieve other dietary goals because of the nutrients it gives to our body such as dietary fiber, beta-carotene, amino acids, flavonoids, phytosterols, antioxidants, and a wide range of vitamins, and minerals, all ingredients the body needs. Fruit and vegetables are also a perfect substitute for foods with added sugars which contribute to health issues of the oral cavity- to keep the doctor and the dentist away.

Plantain, a kind of banana used for cooking. It is my substitute for saba banana for my turon (banana fritters) and guinataang halu halo or bilu bilo. For this kind of dessert it is best to use the overripe one to get the real sweetness of it.

Try eating fruits and vegetables regularly to prevent  another trip to the doctor's office and the prescription medications that go along with it.

  2. I am trying my best to eat as much fruits as I can. So far I am successful with pineapples, sour sop and banana. The rest I am still having a hard time, apple is also not my kind of fruit. Actually my fave is green mango but no good benefits from there that I have heard of.. ;(

  8. We always make it a practice to have fruits and veggies for meals. We love eating the uncooked ripe saba variety of banana after meals. They say this variety is the richest in potassium. I'm not really choosy when it comes to fruits and veggies, although I try to avoid green mangoes and pineapple as they make my tummy acidic.
