Chicken Lollipop

Chicken lollipop is an appetizer or hors d'oeuvres that is made from the chicken wings cut into two segments and flesh on the segments is pushed to one end of the bone to make a lollipop, and deep fried. It takes more time and effort to prepare the lollipop but it is worth it. You can prepare and marinate it according to your taste and favorite spices.

In the Philippines, Chicken Lollipop is considered as a main dish. It is served together with boiled rice and other dish. Nowadays,  this appetizer has been a part of Filipino gathering together with spaghetti, pansit (sauted rice noodle), chopsuey and all other popular Filipino food.

Ingredients:
  • 12 pieces chicken wings
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt or according to your taste.
  • ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • cooking oil for deep frying
  • 1 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1-3 tbsp cold water (optional)
Preparation:
  1. Cut the wing into three parts at the joint. Discard the wing tip.
  2. The middle segment has 2 bones, removed the other one.
  3. Pushed the meat to one end of the bone and form it into lollipop.
  4. In one bowl, mix together salt,  pepper, paprika, garlic powder.
  5. Season the chicken lollipops with the mixed dry ingredients.
  6. Whisk together flour and egg to form a batter. Add cold water if the mixture is too thick.
  7. Dip the chicken lollipop on the batter then to the Panko breadcrumbs.
  8. Put aside in the refrigerator for an hour to marinate well.
  9. Deep-fry over medium heat for about 5-10 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. When done, transfer to a plate with paper towel to remove excess oil.
  11. Serve with your favorite dip.
