When hubby asked what do I want for Christmas dinner, ham or turkey? I chose ham because we already had turkey on Thanksgiving. I checked for the glazed ham recipe but ended up using the ingredients available on hand and came up with the best tasting glazed.
Ingredients:
- 1 (10 pound) smoked bone-in ham
- 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 1/3 cup Florida orange juice or freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1/2 cup honey
- lemon peel
- 1/3 cup , fresh lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp whole cloves
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
- Place ham in a roasting pan.
- Combine brown sugar, orange juice juice, honey, lemon juice, lemon peel, Dijon mustard, and cloves.
- Bring to a boil in a small sauce pan, reduce heat. Simmer for 10 minutes. Set aside.
- Bake ham in preheated oven uncovered for 1 1/2 hours.
- Remove from oven, and brush with glaze.
- Bake for an additional 45 minutes, brushing with glaze every 10 minutes.
- Remove from oven when done, let rest 20 to 30 minutes before slicing.
Sauce:
Add the pan drippings the to the left over glaze and thicken with flour.
Pour over sliced ham or served separately.

My mom used to cook the same every Christmas but had to stop when her doctor asked her to go on a veggie diet. Ever since we had to settle for either chicken or fish, and no more ham during Xmas or New Year (Too cruel...hehehe). It has its positive side but I sure missed the hams.
ReplyDeleteSo when I finally left the house and got married, its back to pigging out coz my wife couldn't live without the taste of meat.
My husband loves to eat ham and what we always buy is the flavored one. I think we have to choose another type of ham which needs some preparations so it is more delicious. I will follow this recipe for that.
ReplyDeleteHam is our default gifts to our customers and family relatives because it's one that is mostly celebrated at the dining table during the holidays. Honey-glazed ham looked fresh and great but we never could have it in our own as we're not meat eaters. We have the vegetarian ham version though. :-P

ReplyDeleteThe ham! I'm used to have honey-glazed ham served at the table. But orange? Well, since orange brings a lot of good aroma plus the sweet taste, why not? :D
ReplyDeleteMaybe, we can have ham even if it's not Christmas or New Year, huh? It has been a long time that I haven't served ham for the holidays.
ReplyDeleteGah! this looks so sumptuous! We had ham for Christmas and it's amazing. I bet your orange-honey glazed ham tastes even better!
