Beef in Oyster Sauce with Celery

Do you have limited time to cook? Well, if yes, beef in oyster sauce is the solution for your problem. It is quick and easy to prepare. If you don't have a tender cut beef, you can use any cut of beef  just slice thinly as possible. You can serve it for lunch or dinner with any side dish. Being a Filipino, we  serve it with rice but my American husband loves it with mashed potato and white bread.
For this dish, I use celery stalk but you can substitute any vegetables you like, brocolli, bell pepper, green beans, etc.

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs. Sirloin,  or any cut of beef, thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch diluted in 3 tablespoons of water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Heat the oil in a pan. Sauté the garlic and onion.
  2. Add the beef. Continue to sauté until the beef turns medium brown.
  3. Add the  oyster sauce, soy sauce, seasoning and water. Stir. Let boil.
  4. Cover and cook in low to medium heat for 30 to 45 minutes or until the beef becomes tender.  Add more water if needed.
  5. Add more salt and pepper to taste if needed. Stir.
  6. Put the celery in. Cook until done.
  7. Pour-in the water with cornstarch. Stir and cook until the sauce thickens.
  8. Transfer to a serving bowl. Serve with rice or mashed potato.
